Large Photo Prints on Premium Paper, Printed in 12 Colours

  • large photo prints complete view
  • large photo prints detailed view
  • large photo prints in the room

Most photo services treat a large print as a luxury and price it like one. A single 20x30 cm enlargement costs £0.99 at CEWE, £1.09 at Boots and £9.00 at ASDA — for one sheet of paper.

Ours costs £0.44. Same premium professional photo paper as every other size we print, same 12-colour technology, in two large formats: 20x27 cm and 20x30 cm. Big enough to frame properly, cheap enough to do a whole wall.

Every size and finish we print sits on the main photo prints page if you want to compare before you order.

Large Prints, Frame-Ready in Two Formats

  • 20x27 cm — almost exactly a phone photo's shape, crops about 1%
  • 20x30 cm — a true 3:2, crops nothing from a DSLR photo
  • Matte for framing behind glass, gloss for maximum colour
  • Roughly four times the area of a 6x4 print
  • Variable formats available if you would rather not crop at all

Which Large Size Should You Choose?

The two sizes are close in area but different in shape, and the right one depends on what took the photo.

Size Shape Choose it if Crops
20 x 27 cm 1.35 The photo came off a phone or a compact camera About 1% — effectively nothing
20 x 30 cm 3:2 The photo came off a DSLR or mirrorless camera, or you want the bigger print Nothing at all from a 3:2 camera

Phones shoot 4:3, and 20x27 cm is almost exactly that shape — so a phone photo fills it with barely a millimetre trimmed. Proper cameras shoot 3:2, which is exactly 20x30 cm. Match the print to the camera and nothing is lost.

Not sure, or the photo is an unusual shape? Use a variable format instead: pick a fixed dimension of 20 cm and we set the other side from your image's own proportions, so nothing is cropped whatever shape it is. That is also how to get a 20x25 cm (10x8") or a 20x20 cm square print.

Exact Dimensions

Size Millimetres Inches 300 DPI pixels Min. MP
20 x 27 cm 200 × 270 7.87 × 10.63" 2362 × 3189 7.5
20 x 30 cm 200 × 300 7.87 × 11.81" 2362 × 3543 8.4

For scale, a 20x30 cm print is about four times the area of a 6x4 and slightly shorter and narrower than a sheet of A4.

Will My Photo Be Sharp at This Size?

This is the size where resolution genuinely starts to matter, so it is worth thirty seconds of checking.

A 20x30 cm print wants 2362 × 3543 pixels — about 8.4 megapixels — for a full 300 DPI result. A standard 12 MP phone photo clears that; a 48 MP phone has room to spare. At 200 DPI, which is perfectly sharp for a framed print viewed from a metre away, you only need about 3.7 MP.

What Will Not Hold Up at This Size

  • Screenshots — typically 2–3 MP, and already compressed
  • Photos saved from Instagram or WhatsApp — often re-compressed to under 2 MP; always go back to the original in your camera roll
  • Heavy crops and digital zoom — a 12 MP photo cropped to a quarter of the frame is 3 MP, fine at 6x4 but marginal at 20x30 cm

Our uploader checks every image against the size you have picked and flags anything too low-resolution, so you find out before you pay rather than when it arrives.

Matte or Gloss for a Large Print?

Both finishes use the same premium paper and the same 12-colour inks — only the surface coating differs, so print quality is identical either way.

Attribute Matte finish Gloss finish
Surface Soft, non-reflective Smooth, reflective
Colour Softer, more natural Punchier, deeper contrast
Fingerprints Hides them Shows them
Under glass No glare Can catch glare
Best for Framing, portraits, black and white Albums, travel, colour-rich shots
Price Same as gloss Same as matte

At this size the choice matters more than it does on a 6x4: a large gloss print catches window and lamp reflections across its whole surface. Choose matte if it is going behind glass, gloss if it is going up unframed or you want maximum colour punch.

What People Do With Large Prints

  • Gallery walls — at £0.44 a print, a twelve-print wall costs under a tenner in prints
  • Framing — fills a standard large frame or sits inside a mount with a proper border
  • Portraits and family photos — big enough to read faces across a room
  • Landscapes and travel — wide scenes need the width to work at all
  • Stair walls and hallways — a run of same-size prints up a staircase
  • Prints for framing as gifts — a large print in a decent frame is a complete present

Want something ready to hang without buying a frame? Look at our canvas prints. Want to go bigger than 20x30 cm? Our poster prints run up to A0.

Large Photo Prints — FAQs

What is the biggest photo print size you offer?

The largest photo print is 20x30 cm (about 8x12"). For anything bigger, our poster prints run up to A0 and our canvas prints go up to wall size — both use the same 12-colour printing.

How do I get a large print of a photo?

Upload it, choose 20x27 cm or 20x30 cm, pick matte or gloss and order. The whole thing takes a couple of minutes in a browser on any device — there is no app to install and no account to create.

How much do large photo prints cost in the UK?

Anywhere from about £0.44 to £9.00 for the same size, depending on where you order. Ours start at £0.44, which is the lowest price in the UK for a print this size — 20 prints is about £8.80.

Where can I get extra large photo prints?

Beyond 20x30 cm you want a poster or a canvas rather than a photo print. Our poster prints go up to A0 (84 × 119 cm) and canvas prints up to wall size. Both need a high-resolution original — check the resolution guidance before ordering at those sizes.

Are large photo prints the same as photo enlargements?

Yes — "enlargement" is the older trade term for any print bigger than the standard 6x4. Our 20x27 cm and 20x30 cm formats are what most retailers call enlargements.

Is 20x30 cm the same as A4?

No, though they are close. A4 is 21 × 29.7 cm; a 20x30 cm print is 1 cm narrower and 3 mm taller, and a different shape. It will not sit flush in an A4 frame or mount. If you specifically need A4, use a poster print in that format rather than a photo print.

Is 20x30 cm the same as 8x12 inches?

Effectively yes. A true 8x12" is 20.3 × 30.5 cm, so a 20x30 cm print is a few millimetres smaller — the same tolerance the industry uses when it sells 10x15 cm as a 6x4. It fits 8x12" frames.

How many megapixels do I need for a large photo print?

About 8.4 MP for a full 300 DPI print at 20x30 cm, or 7.5 MP at 20x27 cm. Any 12 MP phone clears it. At 200 DPI — still sharp for a framed print — you need only around 3.7 MP. We check your image and warn you if it falls short.

Will a large print crop my photo?

It depends on the size you pick. 20x27 cm crops a phone photo by about 1%, which you will never see. 20x30 cm is 3:2, so it crops nothing off a DSLR photo but takes about 11% off a 4:3 phone photo. Match the size to your camera, or use a variable format and nothing is cropped at all.

Should I choose matte or gloss for a large print?

Matte, if it is going behind glass — a large gloss print catches window and lamp reflections across its whole surface, which is much more noticeable than on a 6x4. Gloss if it is going up unframed or you want maximum colour punch.

Can I order just one large print?

Our minimum is 20 prints, but it applies across your whole order and any mix of sizes — so one 20x30 cm alongside a packet of 6x4s meets it comfortably.
