Why Canvas Is Not Sold in A Sizes

Paper Sizes and Canvas Sizes Are Different Systems

A-series sizes come from a ratio of 1:1.414, chosen so that folding a sheet in half gives you the next size down. Canvas stretchers are cut to round centimetre measurements instead, because that is what timber and printing rolls are sized to. The two systems were never meant to meet, which is why you will not find an A3 canvas anywhere.

What You Get Instead

A 40 x 30 cm canvas, hung portrait. On the wall it reads as an A3 print with about 20 mm less height - and unlike an actual A3 print, it needs no frame, no mount and no glass. It arrives stretched over pine with the hanging hardware already fitted.
