The 40 x 30 cm canvas print is the size most people order first, and there is a good reason for that. It is large enough to hold its own on a wall without taking the whole wall over, and small enough that you can hang two or three together without the room feeling crowded. Order it landscape or turn it on its side for a portrait - the price is the same either way.
Hang one above a desk, in a hallway where a bigger canvas would feel like it is closing the space in, or on a narrow chimney breast. It is also the size we would point you towards for a gallery wall - four or five of them in a loose grid fills roughly the same space as one large canvas, but you get to tell a longer story.
A 4:3 photo drops straight in. That covers most phone shots taken in the default camera setting, anything from an older compact, and iPad photos. If your picture is 3:2 - which is what most DSLRs and mirrorless cameras produce - you will lose a thin strip off each end. Our editor shows you exactly what goes and lets you slide the crop until you are happy.
For a print this size we would want roughly 2362 x 1772 px, or about 4.2 megapixels. Any phone made in the last ten years clears that comfortably, and so does a decent scan of a 6x4 photo. If your file falls short the uploader will say so before you pay rather than after.
Your photo goes onto fine-grained canvas using HP Latex inks, which give the deep blacks and clean colour transitions that make a small canvas look properly finished rather than washed out. The inks are solvent-free, so there is no smell when you open the box - worth knowing if it is going in a nursery. A slightly damp cloth is all it ever needs.
| Compared with | How it differs |
|---|---|
| 30x20 | Two thirds the width and height. Same 4:3 family but a gift size rather than a wall size. |
| 60x40 | Half again as wide. Switches to 3:2, so a camera photo fits uncropped where a phone photo will not. |
| 40x40 | Same width, 10 cm taller, square. Choose it if your photo is an Instagram crop. |

Very nearly. A3 measures 29.7 x 42 cm, so a 40 x 30 cm canvas hung portrait is within a few millimetres of it. If you were planning around A3, this is the size you want.
Yes. Order the 40 x 30 cm format and rotate your image in the editor - it is the same product and the same price.
15.7 x 11.8 inches.
Not on its own. Above a two-seater you want 80x60 or larger; 40x30 works above a sofa only as part of a group of three or more.
Upload your photo, pick your edge design, and we will have it hand-stretched and on its way within 24 hours.
