The 30 x 20 cm canvas is where a lot of people start, either because it is a gift and £10.00 feels about right, or because they want to see how a photo comes out on canvas before committing to something over the sofa. It is also the size that solves the awkward narrow gaps - beside a light switch, above a radiator, up a staircase.
Staircase walls, where a row of six climbing with the treads beats one big print. Narrow returns of wall next to a doorway. Above a radiator, where anything taller would be sitting in the rising heat. It also travels well, which matters if you are posting it to someone.
If you are unsure whether an older photo has the detail for a large canvas, order it at 30 x 20 cm first. Ten pounds is a cheap answer to that question, and you will see straight away how the grain, the focus and the colour behave on fabric rather than on a screen.
Roughly 1772 x 1181 px, or about 2.1 megapixels. Almost anything clears this, including photos from early smartphones and scans of old 6x4 prints - which is what makes this size useful for family archive pictures that would not survive being blown up.
There is no cut-price version of our canvas for the small sizes. Same fine-grained fabric, same solvent-free HP Latex inks, same hand-stretching over pine. The only thing that changes is how much wall it covers.
| Compared with | How it differs |
|---|---|
| 40x30 | Half again as large and 4:3 rather than 3:2. The step up most people take for a main wall. |
| 20x20 | Square rather than landscape and slightly cheaper. Choose by the shape of your photo, not the price. |
| 60x40 | Exactly double in both dimensions and the same 3:2 crop - the same photo, four times the wall area. |
For a wider look on the same run of wall, see the 60x30 panoramic canvas print. Prefer to browse the whole range before you commit? Every format, edge design and frame option is on our canvas prints page.

For a desk, a shelf or a small wall, yes. If it is going above furniture in a main room, 40 x 30 cm or 60 x 40 cm will look more deliberate.
