A metre and a fifth across, this is the canvas people order when they have a bare wall above the sofa and have run out of ideas. It is a 3:2 format, so a camera photo fills it without cropping, and at £60.00 it costs less than most framed prints a third of the size.
Above a three-seater sofa of around 180 cm - the two-thirds rule lands almost exactly on 120 cm. Over a double or king-size bed. On a long hallway wall where you walk past it rather than stand in front of it. Give yourself around 20 cm of clear wall either side, or it will feel wedged in.
Landscapes, coastlines, city skylines and wide group shots. What does not survive is a photo you have already cropped hard, or anything shot in poor light on a phone - at this scale, noise in the shadows becomes part of the picture. If you have the original raw file, use it.
Around 4724 x 3150 px, roughly 14.9 megapixels. Because a canvas this size is normally viewed from two metres away rather than arm’s length, you can work at a lower dpi than you would for a small print - but there is no rescuing a file that was small to begin with.
It arrives with hanging hardware fitted and protective corners. Two fixings rather than one, spaced to the frame’s own hangers, and a spirit level - at 120 cm, a couple of millimetres out at one end is visible from across the room. Plasterboard needs proper anchors, not picture hooks.
| Compared with | How it differs |
|---|---|
| 90x60 | Around 55% of the area, same 3:2 shape. The choice when usable wall width is under 160 cm. |
| 120x60 | Same width, 20 cm shallower, 2:1. A panoramic look on the same wall for £10 less. |
| 100x75 | Narrower but taller. Often looks more substantial in a small room despite covering less wall. |
For a 4:3 photo at a similar scale, compare the 80x60 canvas print. Prefer to browse the whole range before you commit? Every format, edge design and frame option is on our canvas prints page.
