Square photos have their own logic. No landscape-or-portrait decision, no dominant direction — just a subject and a frame around it. It is why the format has outlasted the app that revived it, and why square prints hang so well in grids.
MY PICTURE prints squares in five sizes, from a 9x9 cm pocket print up to a 20x20 cm wall piece, from £0.08 each on premium professional photo paper in 12 colours.
Every size and finish we print sits on the main photo prints page if you want to compare before you order.
| MY PICTURE size | In inches | Best for | From |

| 10 x 10 cm | ~4 x 4" | The classic square print — albums, pinboards, grids | £0.08 |
| 11 x 11 cm | ~4.3 x 4.3" | Small frames, desk displays | £0.12 |
| 13 x 13 cm | ~5 x 5" | Framing, gifting, shelf displays | £0.13 |

Note the unit difference: UK competitors sell squares in inches (4x4, 5x5, 6x6, 8x8, 10x10, 12x12), while ours are in centimetres. 10x10 cm is roughly a 4x4" print; 13x13 cm roughly 5x5"; 20x20 cm roughly 8x8". A "10x10" from another retailer may mean 10x10 inches — two and a half times the size of our 10x10 cm. Worth checking which unit a retailer means before comparing prices.

Instagram made the square famous, but it is much older: Hasselblad and Rolleiflex medium-format cameras shot 6x6 cm squares from the 1930s, and Polaroid's instant prints were square. The format never really went away.
One thing to know before you order. Your phone shoots 4:3, not square. Turning a 4:3 photo into a square means cutting about 25% off the long edge — the biggest crop of any print size. That is not a problem when it is deliberate, but it does mean:
Same premium paper, same 12-colour inks, different surface.
| Attribute | Matte finish | Gloss finish |
|---|---|---|
| Surface | Soft, non-reflective | Smooth, reflective |
| Colour | Softer, more natural | Punchier, deeper contrast |
| Fingerprints | Hides them | Shows them |
| Under glass | No glare | Can catch glare |
| Best for | Framing, portraits, black and white | Albums, travel, colour-rich shots |
| Price | Same as gloss | Same as matte |
For grid walls, matte is usually the better choice — a wall of gloss squares catches light at different angles and the grid stops reading as one piece.
MY PICTURE prints squares at 9x9, 10x10, 11x11, 13x13 and 20x20 cm — roughly 3.5x3.5" up to 8x8". 10x10 cm is the classic square print size and the most popular.
Yes, in practice. Instagram's original format was 1:1, so photos composed for it print perfectly square with nothing cropped. "Instagram prints" and "square prints" describe the same product.
If it is a normal 4:3 phone photo, yes — about 25% comes off the long edge to make it square. That is the largest crop of any print size. Photos already shot or cropped square print with nothing lost. You will see and can adjust the crop before ordering.
Our 10x10 cm square is about 3.94 x 3.94 inches — roughly a 4x4" print. Be careful comparing retailers: some sell "10x10" meaning inches, which is a much larger print than 10x10 cm.
From £0.08 for a 10x10 cm square, rising with size: 11x11 cm is £0.12, 13x13 cm £0.13 and 20x20 cm £0.44. A packet of 20 at 10x10 cm is around £1.60. Free UK delivery over £49.
20x20 cm (about 8x8"), which needs a 2362 x 2362 pixel image — about 5.6 MP — for a full 300 DPI print. For larger square wall pieces, look at our square canvas prints.
Yes, but download the original from your own camera roll rather than saving it back off the app. Instagram re-compresses uploads heavily, often to under 2 MP, which will look soft even at 10x10 cm. Your phone's original file is always the better source.
Nine 20x20 cm squares in a 3x3 grid with a 5 cm gap covers roughly 70 x 70 cm of wall — a good fit above a sofa or a bed. Sixteen in a 4x4 gives about 95 x 95 cm. Because squares have no orientation, the spacing is the only thing you need to get right.
Square frames are widely available in the UK, though less common than 6x4 or A4. Check the frame's stated aperture: our 10x10 cm and 13x13 cm prints suit frames sold as 10x10 cm / 4x4" and 13x13 cm / 5x5" respectively. Many people mount square prints in a larger square frame with a white mount, which looks deliberate and gallery-like.
